Steelers, Diontae Johnson agree to two-year, $36.71M extension

One day after news came out that the Pittsburgh Steelers and wideout Diontae Johnson were unlikely to reach agreement on a contract extension before the start of the regular season, the 1,000-yard receiver has reportedly secured his next payday.

A third-round pick of the 2019 NFL Draft, Johnson finished his first Pro Bowl campaign in 2021 as the team leader with 107 catches for 1,161 receiving yards and eight touchdowns.

Pittsburgh’s first-year general manager Omar Khan said Tuesday that he hoped the 26-year-old would be with the Steelers for a “long time.” As noted by ESPN’s Field Yates however, Johnson’s new deal doesn’t pay him anywhere near the top tier of receivers.

The Toledo product has racked up 254 receptions for 2,764 yards and 20 touchdowns over his first 47 career regular-season games.
