Max Verstappen wins British Grand Prix from pole ahead of Lando Norris; Lewis Hamilton recovers to P3

Lando Norris did his best to make it interesting, but Max Verstappen eventually prevailed to win the British Grand Prix, a record 11th consecutive victory for Red Bull Racing.

McLaren’s Norris charged ahead of the two-time defending champion from the start and led exiting Abbey Corner. But Verstappen, with his Honda powertrain and the help of DRS, took the lead back on lap 5 and built up an eight second lead before the first round of pit stops.

Verstappen would cruise to victory despite a late safety car for Mercedes’ Norris and Lewis Hamilton.

Brad Pitt filming movie in Silverstone

No, the 59-year-old two-time Academy Award winner will not be on track alongside the F1 drivers during official sessions, but Brad Pitt will be turning hot laps at Silverstone this weekend. Pitt will drive a modified junior Formula 2 car – which has far less power than the sport’s top tier – while filming scenes on the track for his upcoming F1 film entitled “Apex”.

The plot revolves around an aging former racer named Sonny Hayes (Pitt) who returns to F1 to mate with young hotshot rookie Joshua Pearce (Damson Idris). The entry even has its own garage and storage in Silverstone’s pit lane.

Top drivers and best bets for the British Grand Prix

Verstappen is once again the huge favorite going into the weekend, and will remain so until everyone, including team-mate Sergio Perez, can put up a credible challenge. Perez is the only other driver coming into the weekend with better than 10-to-1 odds according to BetMGM.

Best odds of winning
• Max Verstappen -350
• Sergio Perez +700
•Lewis Hamilton +1100

Yahoo Sports’ Nick Bromberg wrote about some interesting props earlier this week if you want to bet on more than just a Verstappen win (which you certainly still should). Bromberg wants Fernando Alonso to finish ahead of Charles Leclerc (-110), Aston Martin for Ferrari (+100) and Lewis Hamilton for a podium in his home race (+115)

Again for the British Grand Prix

The forecast calls for warm, partly cloudy conditions on Friday and cool temperatures through the weekend. There is a 51% chance of rain for Saturday’s qualifying session, so we can expect a mixed grid. Cool, overcast conditions for Sunday coupled with Pirelli bringing the hardest tires in the range seem to be crying out for a one-stop race that is likely to dominate the sharp end of the field.
