The week started with Jonah Hill’s ex-girlfriend Sarah Brady’s public accusations that he was “emotionally abusive” during their relationship, and a few more stories have now emerged about the actor’s alleged behavior in the past.
Here’s an explanation:
What is the most recent?
After Brady’s accusation, Alexa Nikolas, an actress out Zoe 101, made her own on Twitter the same day. She said 15 years ago when she was 16, eight years younger than Hill’s then 24, she ran into him at a party at Justin Long’s house. Hill asked if Nikolas wanted a cigarette, and she says something else happened when they went outside to clear the smoke from his car.
“#JonahHill didn’t give me the cigarette, which I thought was odd,” Nikolas wrote, “and as we walked back to the door I asked him for it, and he said nothing, but slammed me against the door and shoved his tongue down my throat. “
Hill’s attorney Marty Singer, who previously defended Bill Cosby, dismissed Nikolas’ accusation. He said her story “never happened,” that it was a “complete fabrication,” and branded her a “serial accuser” for making “various allegations against multiple men in the entertainment industry.”
Nikolas, the leader of the Eat Predators organization, has spoken out about her experience with Dan Schneider and has protested to Nickelodeon and music companies.
Another thing that has surfaced is an interview Jay Baruchel did with the late Larry King in 2018, where he was asked about his relationship with Hill, his co-star in the 2013 movie. This is the end.
“There is one, I think,” Baruchel said awkwardly. “I know the man.”
“You don’t like him?” king asked.
“I wouldn’t say that right now,” Baruchel said before laughing. “It was contentious once, but I think now we’re kind of, we’re each the devil who knows the other.”
What did Brady say that started all this?
Over the weekend, Brady, a professional surfer and law student, shared several alleged text messages between her and Hill in which The Wolf of Wall Street star criticized her for posting photos in a bathing suit. Hill supposedly said she couldn’t surf with men and laid out other “boundaries” for their “romantic partnership.” (Yahoo Entertainment has not been able to confirm the validity of the messages and a representative for Hill has not responded.)
Hill, who is now 39, and Brady, 26, started dating in 2021 and split last year. The actor recently welcomed his first child with his fiancée, Olivia Millar — and Brady said it’s part of the reason she’s sharing her experience.
Why did Brady decide to speak out now?
Brady said she didn’t want to come forward while Millar was pregnant.
“I didn’t want her to have to watch all of this while she was pregnant because I didn’t know what kind of stress that would put her and her baby, like physical and everything,” Brady said in a voice memo. posted to her Instagram Story on Sunday.
Brady explained that while “the timing may seem bad”, she had good intentions.
“I just hope that somehow she would receive some of these screenshots through friends, such as friends of mine that I met through him who I know are good people who I know would make an effort to help her. protect,” said Brady.
The surfer added: “I waited until she had her baby so I knew they weren’t physically affected by sharing this s*** and she could be informed and make an informed decision on how to look after herself and her baby wants to care. whom she bore and she created.”
What exactly did the supposed texts say?
In the posts Brady shared, “Jonah” (according to her contacts) asked her to stop modeling and not have “boundary inappropriate relationships with men.” He reportedly suggested she end “friendships with women who are in unstable places and from your wild recent past, other than lunch or coffee or something respectful.” It seems th
at the specific text is from December 2021.
Brady released a message she sent back, including a list of “all the posts I removed from my page.” Hill apparently replied, “good start.”
Brady insinuated that the actor is a “narcissistic misogynist.”
Has Hill responded? And how have other people reacted?
No, the Oscar-nominated star has not publicly addressed the allegations. In August 2022, Hill deleted social media and said he would be taking a break from promoting projects due to 20 years of anxiety attacks.
“Usually I cringe at these types of letters or statements, but I understand that I am one of the few privileged people who can afford to take time off. I will not lose my job while I work on my anxiety,” she said. Hill’s statement in part, noting that he “hopes to make it more normal for people to talk about and act on these things. So that they can take steps to feel better and so that the people in their lives can understand problems better.
Some have commented that Brady had no right to share her lyrics with Hill.
But Hill has also drawn criticism for his satirical clothing line, Meaningful Existence, which he launched earlier this year. People have been quick to notice that there was some tongue-in-cheek merchandise for sale. There’s an “Emotional Baggage” that reads “Full Relentless Control.” (It can be yours for $30.) “Complete Unrelenting Control” appears to be the brand’s tagline and appears on several pieces of clothing. In light of Brady’s revelations, the streetwear slogan is now considered questionable by some critics.
