Eagles re-sign Fletcher Cox two days after release

The Philadelphia Eagles are keeping six-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Fletcher Cox after all, the team announced Saturday.

Cox, 31, has spent his entire career with the Eagles after getting picked by the team in the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft. He was cut by the team Thursday afternoon in a move that saved $16 million before returning on a one-year deal two days later.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the new contract will pay Cox $14 million for the 2022 season.

With his cap hit originally set to spike in 2022, Philadelphia engaged in trade discussions centering around Cox during the 2021 season, but elected not to move the defensive tackle before the trade deadline.
