Whether you’re new to Amazon Prime Day or just want to sharpen your shopping skills, we’ve got everything you need to know before you start clicking. But first some insight….

“The Prime Day event, which usually takes place in the middle of summer over a 48-hour period, offers a big sale during the usual dead zone between Memorial Day and Labor Day,” said Kristin McGrath, a deal-finding and shopping expert. cash. back site RetailMeNot. “According to our tracking, Amazon tends to offer the best prices on a whole range of its products during Prime Day and then repeats those deals almost identically during Black Friday.”

Read on for what to expect specifically from the property category, including some early deals you can use to refresh your space now.

What types of household items will be on sale?

“Prime Day is essentially a big party that Amazon throws for itself and its Prime members,” says McGrath. “And since it’s Amazon’s party, the retailer usually reserves some of the most exciting discounts for its own products, especially when it comes to Amazon’s Smart Home line.”

In addition to sprucing up your home with the latest tech gear, Amazon Prime Day is a great opportunity to pick up discounted home appliances for all your cleaning, cooking, prepping, and entertaining needs.

“Last year we saw up to 50 percent off pressure cookers, coffee makers, air fryers and Roomba vacuum cleaners. We also saw 43 percent off Ninja Food Processors, and up to 50 percent off luxury items like select Solo Stove models (expect the more popular models to sell out), McGrath recalled. “Also look at offers for gardening, patio furniture and barbecues. Once you get past the 4th of July, retailers start discounting these seasonal items leading up to the end of summer, and Amazon is no different.

McGrath adds that you can usually expect pretty dramatic price drops on select home furnishings in the form of Lightning Deals, which can change quickly. “Prime Day deals on furniture, mattresses and home accessories can be hit and miss. These items are also on sale more often, making big-ticket items attractive when you’re in the market, but certainly not urgent.”

How to get the best home deals on Prime Day

As with many things in life, McGrath reiterates that preparation around Amazon Prime Day is key. “Amazon usually throws a pre-party in the form of early sales that come out in the days leading up to Prime Day,” she says. “Sometimes Amazon rewards certain pre-Prime purchases with a credit that can be used on Prime Day itself, so if there are home items you need to stock up on, use that as an excuse to hit that spending threshold and unlock that Prime Day Credit. ”

A little price analysis can also go a long way. “If you’re a Prime member, it’s hard to beat that fast, free shipping, but major competitors like Target and Walmart will still ship your stuff in a timely manner (and free if you meet the minimum purchase threshold),” explains McGrath. “If you are a rewards member at another retailer, calculate the value of any rewards you would get with a major home purchase. And be sure to check if another retailer has a promotional code that makes a deal just that little bit better.”

Some more tips to get the most out of Prime Day 2023:

  • Edit your space. “Assess the inside and outside of the house to identify any holes or items that need to be replaced.”

  • Watch for repeat purchases. “Buy commonly used household items during sales to save more over time. We usually see everyday products, such as laundry detergent and other cleaning products, marked down.”

  • Research previous deals. “Prime Day deals tend to repeat themselves, so use price trackers like CamelCamelCamel to see how a home item is priced throughout the year.”

  • Give your favorites a heart under the belt. “You can do this in the Amazon app and choose to be notified when home items go on sale. A wish list can also be a great point of reference on the big day.”

  • Be creative. “In previous years, Amazon has also offered special deals to Echo device users that you can unlock by asking Alexa for Prime Day deals.”
