  • Air New Zealand has been named the best airline in the world by AirlineRatings.com.

  • The review website cited the airline’s Skynest economy beds as one of the reasons for its success.

  • It ranked Southwest as the top low-cost airline in the US.

Air New Zealand has been ranked the best airline in the world by AirlineRatings.com, an aviation safety and product review website.

The airline beat Qatar Airways, which held the title in 2021 and 2022, to secure first place. The website cited Air New Zealand’s new Skynest economy beds and the airline’s safety record as two reasons for the top spot.

Air New Zealand took first place for best economy class; Qatar Airways took the lead for business class; and Singapore Airlines was ranked as the best first class airline.

Delta ranked 15th among U.S. airlines. The rating website named the best low cost airline Southwest in the US and Ryanair in Europe.

Geoffrey Thomas, editor-in-chief of AirlineRatings.com, said: “In our objective analysis, Air New Zealand came in as number one in many key areas, although it scored very well for the top five.”

He continued: “Like all airlines around the world, Air New Zealand has faced serious disruptions during and after the pandemic and this year has faced huge challenges from storms and cyclones. The airline has responded well.”

AirlineRatings.com uses criteria such as fleet age, passenger ratings and profitability. Here are the top 10 airlines, according to the website:
